As the USA turns its back on the world, China has stepped forward to fight the Covid-19 Pandemic
China has expressed “grave concerns” on the US decision to turn its back on the international community, by halting funding to the World Health Organization.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian made the remark at a daily news conference on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump announced that his administration is withholding the US contribution of $400 million to the WHO and will conduct a review of the global organization’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This latest move has exposed the United States’s callousness, willing to sacrifice the worlds poor and developing nations who rely on the global community, in order to distract the world and its own citizens from its own failings to confront the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
Fortunately for the World Health Organization and those in need of help, China has stepped forward and has pledged to support the global health body.
“This U.S. decision will weaken the WHO’s capabilities and undermine international cooperation,” Zhao said, adding: “China will as always support the WHO in playing an important role in international public health and global anti-epidemic response.”
President Xi Jinping will be publishing an article on global solidarity and cooperation to battle the COVID-19 pandemic on Thursday.
The article by Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will appear in the eighth issue of the Qiushi Journal.
Solidarity and cooperation are the most powerful weapon against the disease, the article says.
While Donald Trump has repeatedly maligned the international community with his America First policy, Xi Jinping has been working harder than ever to ensure that there is global economic and political stability for all those who wish it.
Xi notes that it is imperative for the international community to strengthen confidence, act with unity and work together in a collective response.
